BJJ Class 109

I went on a two week vacation and returned to a whole load of schoolwork. So much in fact that it took most of my blogging and training time away. Well I did go to BJJ once but that was over a week ago. Here’s what I remember:

Technique was a sacrificial-type of throw. You basically get your grips, position your feet, fall back/side wards and using a combination of the momentum from your fall and your foot positioning with hooks you take your opponent off-balance, flip them, and finish in top side mount.

The technique was fun to try, but as soon as we started resisting and countering, it stopped working and was more like a move to jump into open guard. I won’t be trying to add this to my game anytime soon.

I rolled twice afterward. My first roll was against a whitebelt who I greatly out-weighed and out-sized. I got several sweeps and subs, but I don’t remember what they were. I also wasn’t thinking of my training goals much. My second roll was against a closer physically matched, but more skilled whitebelt. He was getting an armbar on me and I tapped out as he was sinking it in. The armbar attempt (and I’m sure he would’ve gotten it anyway) left my bad right shoulder buzzing with a light pain. That ended my training night.

The only real thought I remember was that I should really put more work on breaking close guard and passing to side control.

My BJJ school is going to be closed on Columbus Day, which is my next scheduled training day. Hope I get to train again soon.

Rah!
