BJJ Class 108
First week of the fall term was last week. I ended up going to school everyday of the week (except Labor Day of course) as I didn’t like one of the classes I was registered for. I dropped it and quickly signed up for another class on another night. Anyway, because of all that school stuff I missed BJJ last week.
Class this week was great. I brought along a friend from work for a trial class – he had a great time and I’m sure he’s going to sign up for more BJJ.
I got to roll with a purple belt a bit before class started. I paired up with my friend for warm-ups, which was a setup for a double leg takedown. After that we drilled a really great open guard sweep against a standing opponent. We just kept going, taking turns taking the other person down.
After that I did some more rolling.
Since I’ve finally set some goals, I’m bring my tap counter back. I’ll keep working on those goals until I hit 50 taps – then I’ll review my progress and decide whether to work new goals or not.
I went against just 2 people this time. A small white belt then a big huge white belt. I manged to get an americana on both of them, an armbar from rear mount on the big guy, and my first omoplata on the little guy. I’ve tried omoplata’s before, but obviously they were never successful. When rolling, I kept seeing opening for it, so I kept attempting it – after a few times I finally got it!! From the bottom I also got into position for a triangle and an armbar – for some reason my mechanics are all wrong for doing them from guard. I can get an arm trapped and keep the head in place, but I always have a hard time getting my hips in the right position. That’ll probably be my next goal…
On my goals – Bottom game: My sweeps are still off for some reason. Guess I should dig into my BJJ library for some insights…
Top game: Managed to pass guard several times against the big white belt. I don’t think I really learned anything though, I think he was experimenting with open guard.
Name game: Didn’t remember a damn name!!
After rolling I taught my friend the t-rex arms defense and hipscaping (shrimping). Then it was time to go…
I’m off for two weeks and two days for a vacation, finally!
Anyway, out.
