BJJ Class 156
Can’t believe I missed class all this week…it’s not like I was busy and had stuff to do, I was just lazy. What a bummer…
Anyway, I made a no-gi class, so I should be happy…
I came in late and caught just the tail end of warm-ups. Technique was a butterfly sweep counter that lands you in side-control. It’s so deceptively simple and, as I tried several time while rolling, it requires a good amount of timing.
Rolling was open mat. My constant absence off the mat is taking its toll – I fared poorer than I thought I would have in a long roll against a fellow blue belt. He was stronger than me and it showed. I managed to try the butterfly sweep counter several times, did a few cool reversals, and a few kneebar attempts. My bottom game is definitely weak and I found myself under mount a few times. On top, everything just seemed so slippery. I need to work on grips to be able to maintain no-gi top control and pass effectively no matter how sweaty and slippery everything gets.
I rolled next with another blue belt and just played bottom. I need work on that. And on sweeps, cause I never seem to get them anymore.
Last roll was with a white belt. I find myself constantly going for the deep half-guard and getting my neck caught. Even when I tell myself not to, I still end up going for it and getting my neck caught. There’s definitely something wrong with how I go for it. When I did manage to get on top, I was able to get quick armbars.
And that was that. I start a new job next week, which is an hour away (in the wrong direction from BJJ). All the jobs I’ve had since I started training has been in the direction of my BJJ school and this is the first time it will be away from it – I hope I don’t continue getting I’m-lazy-and-wanna-bum-out-at-home fever…
