BJJ Class 153
Almost thought I wouldn’t get to make jiu-jitsu last week, but fortunately I was able to sneak in a friday night class.
It was a marathon of a class, with long epic rolls. After a good short warm-up, we paired off and worked on the mount elbow-escape to half-guard to a deep half-guard sweep. We drilled that one technique for over half an hour, then afterward we rolled for more than an hour and a half. I only rolled with two people, so those rolls were about 45 minutes each. Even without considering all the BJJ I’ve been missing this year, it has been a long while since I’ve had such long rolls.
My first roll was with a guy that I’m pretty even with. I have a fun time rolling with this guy as it’s always back and forth, we manage to setup submissions but can’t finish each other, it just a constant back and forth and reversals and such. The second guy I rolled with was on his first Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu class but has extensive BJJ experience in the military, even teaching it. He outweighed me by about 20 pounds, which was enough to neutralize what little technique I have.
I feel much better than I did when I first got my blue belt. I felt my jiu-jitsu was absolutely horrible then, it’s now moved up to sucking a lot. Hopefully it goes up to sucky-suck before the year ends…
