BJJ Class 152
No gi class. It was great and I feel pretty good. Warm-ups were of the medium variety and included a drill I hadn’t done before – without a partner from your knees you jump up and land in the knee on belly position. Warm-ups also included open guard passing and guard recovery.
Technique learned was the D’arce choke. I’ve seen it, read about it, saw it on YouTube, tapped to it, but never learned it before. It’s a very good submission. After drilling it a few times I was getting the hang of it. I know for sure though that the first time I’ll try it while rolling I’m going to get confused and mess it up. “What arm goes where?” Or something like that.
Regular rolling was next and I was paired with a whitebelt. I although I’m not concentrating on it, I seem to be always going for leg and ankle locks when I go against white-belts. I just keep seeing opportunities for it.
After that round, we did rotational rolling in groups of four, trading places in open guard versus passing. I was grouped with a fellow blue belt and two whitebelts, one of whom was very high-level and gives a lot of blue belts a run for their money. I was able to hold my own and was passed and passed just a few times. I saw the opportunity for what I call the BJ Penn sweep so many times and couldn’t quite get it cause I would forget one or two things. I did review with it with someone after the class ended.
I feel great, have a good weekend!!
