BJJ Class 151

First class after a month-long absence…. It was a great class to get back in the groove with.  I hope I indeed have a groove.

I went to the first evening class, just for one session not my typical two.  I had some urgent work that needed to be done for a client and I even really should’ve done it instead of train BJJ.

But my body was craving jiu-jitsu.  It craved it so much that my body just reacted and acted so naturally to it.  During my break I didn’t think of jiu jitsu – I didn’t read, watch, or even ponder on BJJ – so I was a bit surprised.

After warm-ups, we went into a very sneaky cross-choke that you can apply and sink in from the bottom from almost any position – half-guard, butterfly, as your opponent passes your guard, even after your opponent has attained side control.  It’s a very sneaky and cool move.

Then we broke off into pairs for closed guard versus passing, then open guard versus passing rounds of rolling.  I was paired with a high level white belt for all rounds.

I haven’t felt so dominant while rolling in a long time.  I actually felt really good.  Bear in mind, I know for sure I’m going to get an ego reality check in the next class for sure.  I know it and accept it.  These checks are one of the many things that make BJJ great!

As the rolling went on, I got more and more confident.  I was able to practice some passes and really pay attention to where I was applying pressure while passing.  Playing guard was less experimental as I don’t have as much of a base of techniques to rely and experiment on – especially open guard which I have no game in.

Overall, class was great and I’m glad to be back in.  Ous!!
