Armbar-triangle-omoplata-triangle sequence

Here’s the flow drill we went through way back in BJJ Class 114. The whole drill can be done as one whole sequence or it can be broken down into parts such as:

  • From guard against a kneeling opponent, alternating armbars. Then adding ..
  • Opponent pulls arm out, switch hips for triangle. Then drilling just up to here, then add…
  • Training partner defends triangle and postures up, switch hips and go for omoplata. Then drilling just up to here, then add…
  • Training partner defends by sitting up and powering out, switch hips again and finish with triangle.
  • And now the photos:

Boarder starts off in the guard.

Controlling Nogi, Boarder goes for the armbar from guard.

In defense, Nogi pulls his arm out.

Boarder capitalizes on Nogi’s left arm and switches his hips to go for a triangle.

    Boarder tightens up the triangle.

In defense, before Boarder closes the triangle (before the previous picture) Nogi postures up to avoid getting choked.

Since Nogi’s left arm if still between Boarder’s legs, he takes advantage of it and moves his right leg over to set up an omoplata.  Boarder can tap Nogi with the omoplata.

But Nogi is a strong guy, posts on his right arm…

… and muscles up to avoid the omoplata.  Boarder shouldn’t have his hands in the air like in the picture, since he has to maintain control of Nogi so that …

… he can switch his legs to a triangle…

    …and finish Nogi from there.
