December 2008 Goals Review
Given that I won’t be able to train for the rest of the year (sounds like a long time, right?) and the month, it’s time for me to go through my December goals. They were:
December 2008 training goals:
Guard Passes
Roll more with guys my weight and above
I feel that I progressed further on both goals this month. I’m at a better place than I was when the month started, but not as much as I had hoped.
My most significant learning for the month is that I should go for another technique if I face resistance with the “keep-the-legs-together” pass. As a result of that, I’ve rediscovered my stacking pass techniques. Since I added the goal of rolling more with guys bigger/heavier than myself, there was only one class where that didn’t happen. The purpose of that goal is so that I will get used to rolling with them more and not be so ‘overwhelmed’, but that hasn’t happened yet. The day I’m able to control (to a degree) the overall roll with a bigger guy will be the day where I feel like I’ve achieved this goal.
For January 2009, I’d like to continue working on my pass techniques and would really like to be able to implement the shoulder plant pass. I feel like getting that added to my techniques will bring my game up a (small) notch. I’d also like to continue rolling with the bigger guys.
While I’m not into making New Year’s resolutions, I’d really like to loose weight this year. I’m making that into a training goal, not a New Year’s resolution. I’ve been pretty good this holiday season and haven’t been stuffing myself to the brim with every meal like I have in holidays past. In 2007, I lost 15 pounds during the year only to gain it all back during the holidays, and the weight stayed on all of 2008. A few days ago my weight dropped below 200 pounds, 199.8 to be exact, the first time in months. Anyway, I’d like to loose 15 pounds again, with loosing 20lbs as a stretch goal.
Ok, making it official:
January 2009 training goals:
Guard Passes – implement shoulder plant pass
Roll more with guys my weight and above
Year goal: Loose 15 pounds, 20 lbs as stretch goal.
