BJJ Class 118

Boston was a short trip and I treated it like a vacation.  My initial plan was to find a BJJ school there and train one session, but with my face injury I just spend my time in the Museum of Science and the Aquarium.  I had a great time!!

Today’s class was no-gi.  I didn’t really get to join in the class as I spent most of the session drilling techniques on the side.  Cool techniques!  We’re actually getting ready for a belt test, which I’m looking forward to.  It’s pretty weird for a Brazilian Jiu-jitsu school to have belt tests isn’t it?

I did two rolls at the end.  One was with another person that will be testing then with an older woman (I’m guessing she’s in her 50′s, but I could be wrong – I’m bad at guessing age), but that roll was more of just helping her out and teaching.

What I did right:
Almost everything I felt was right. Played my guard game well.  My guard wasn’t passed, although he got half-guard once or twice.  I really feel that my guard has improved  a whole lot since I started focusing on it and made it my goal.

What I did wrong:
My top game has gotten better too, but not as much since I’m not focusing on it too much.  I passed guard and established side control a few times.  I wasn’t able to do much in terms of getting mount or submission attempts.  A few times I would loose position and get into half-guard.  I was swept/reversed from there once or twice but managed to quickly reverse back. When I was passing, a few times I would forget to press my head against my opponent, thus opening my neck up to attacks, which did come.

What I need to work on:
Definitely my top game.  Everything with my top game needs work.

My nose was hit a few times, which was pretty annoying.  I don’t know if it would get hit this often while rolling before or if I’m just being overly aware of it now.  Also, the person I was drilling with kept saying my nose was bleeding.  I never saw any blood in it…I dunno.

Anyway, that was fun.  This unemployed person needs to go back to the jobhunt now.
